Getting Started with WonderFunds

A step-by-step guide to setting up your WonderFunds account and uploading your first bank statement.

Welcome to WonderFunds

WonderFunds gives you a clear, private picture of where your money goes — without ever connecting to your bank. This guide walks you through everything you need to do in your first five minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Head to wonderfunds.app/register and register with your email address. You'll set a secure password and confirm your email before you can log in. No credit card is required for the Free plan.

Step 2: Add a Financial Source

Once you're on the dashboard, navigate to Sources and click Add Source. A financial source represents a single account you want to track — for example:

  • Your main checking account
  • A credit card
  • Your PayPal account

Give it a recognizable name and select the currency. Free-plan users can track one source; upgrade to Pro or Business for unlimited sources.

Step 3: Upload Your First Statement

Click Upload on your newly created source. WonderFunds accepts:

  • CSV files — exported from your bank's online portal
  • PDF statements — available on Pro and Business plans

Tip

Most banks let you export transactions as CSV from their online banking portal. Look for an "Export" or "Download" button in the transaction history. Make sure the file includes columns for date, description, and amount.

Drag your file into the upload area or click to browse. WonderFunds parses the file, extracts every transaction, and permanently deletes the raw file afterward to protect your privacy.

Step 4: Review AI Categorizations

After processing, each transaction is automatically assigned a category and subcategory — for example, Housing → Rent or Food & Drink → Groceries. Review the results in the Transactions view:

  • Green badge — high-confidence match, likely correct
  • Yellow badge — medium confidence, worth a quick check
  • Red badge — low confidence, please categorize manually

You can correct any categorization with a single click, and WonderFunds learns from your corrections over time.

Step 5: Explore Your Dashboard

With transactions categorized, your dashboard comes alive:

  1. Spending overview — totals by category for the current month
  2. Sankey diagram — visualize exactly how money flows from income to expenses (Pro+)
  3. Trends — month-over-month comparisons so you can spot changes early

Set up tags for cross-category tracking (e.g., vacation, wedding), create custom rules to auto-categorize recurring merchants, and explore AI Insights for personalized spending observations.
