What Are Own-Account Transfers?
When you move money between your own accounts (e.g., from checking to savings), both sides of the transfer appear as transactions. Without handling, these would inflate your income and expense totals.
WonderFunds detects and links these transfer pairs so they don't distort your financial picture.
Automatic Detection
During upload, WonderFunds looks for own-account transfers using:
- Keywords: Common transfer terms like "Umbuchung", "Übertrag", "Transfer", "Own transfer"
- Source name matching: When the merchant name contains the name of another financial source
- Pair matching: Same amount, opposite direction (one debit, one credit), different sources, within approximately 4 days
Manual Linking
If automatic detection misses a transfer pair, you can link them manually:
- Go to the Transactions page
- Find the transaction you want to link
- Click the Link Transfer button
- Search for the matching transaction
- Confirm the link
What Makes a Valid Pair?
- Same absolute amount
- Opposite directions (one income, one expense)
- Different financial sources
- Within a reasonable time window
Unlinking
If a pair was linked incorrectly:
- Find either transaction in the pair
- Click Unlink Transfer
- Both transactions return to normal status
Effect on Reports
Linked transfer pairs are:
- Excluded from income and expense totals by default
- Excluded from category spending breakdowns
- Toggleable in filters (you can choose to include them)
- Marked with a special transfer icon in the transaction list
